Maldives concludes discussions on formulating FTA with Hong Kong

Maldives and Hong Kong have successfully concluded discussions on formulating a Free Trade Agreement between both countries. Briefing the media after discussions held at Hong Kong, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed stated that with the establishment of the new FTA, positive effects would be felt by the Maldivian economy, especially in areas such as tourism and trade.

Maldives signed a Free Trade Agreement with China in December 2017, making it the first ever FTA established by Maldives with an individual country. Maldives is also party to the South Asian Free Trade Area, SAFTA.
