Tourism Minister urges to pay tax accordingly

Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer has said the biggest concern to the economy of Maldives is the fear of exterminating businesses, due to companies not paying tax accordingly.

Addressing a function held by the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer acknowledged that majority of the companies pay tax in accordance with the rules.

Highlighting that the tourism sector of Maldives is based on the services, safety and security, Minister Zameer mentioned that companies compromising these values must not be given any chance to destroy the economy. Government has faced a loss of more than USD 844 million from the debt owed by Villa Group to the state, said the Tourism Minister.

Minister Zameer called on to obliterate the idea of establishing settlement agreements with the government without paying the lawfully owed money and noted that the government has no aim or interest to destroy a certain company.
