Administration shared its concerns with Chief Justice: AG

Attorney General of the Maldives Mohamed Anil has stated that the Administration has shared its concerns with the Chief Justice over Supreme Court’s ruling.

Attorney General Mohamed Anil, speaking at a press briefing held at the President’s Office, assured that the Administration was working with all relevant authorities of the State, in carrying out the speedy implementation of Supreme Court ruling. Discussions have been held with the Chief Justice and raised the Administration’s concerns over the court’s ruling, to release detainees from custody, with regard to the nature of their offences such as terrorism, corruption, embezzlement, and treason, said the Attorney General.

Furthermore, the Attorney General noted that the Administration has highlighted concerns over the consequences that maybe presented in the immediate implementation of the court’s ruling. In this regard, the Attorney General said that the Prosecutor General was currently in the process of examining the cases to determine the best way to proceed with the implementation of the Supreme Court’s ruling, and that the Prosecutor General would present recommendations at the earliest, highlighting that Chief Justice had advised the Administration to proceed with implementation within due process.

Attorney General Anil, commending the efforts of the Ministry of Defence and National Security, Ministry of Home Affairs, Maldives National Defence Force, and the Maldives Police Service for their contributions, further reiterated the high priority accorded by the Administration to ensure the security and safety of the Maldivian people, and maintain the peace and stability of the country.
