Police arrests individuals for the case of coup attempt

Maldives Police Service has arrested 4 individuals for their alleged involvement in a coup attempt.

President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was arrested on the charges of his role and involvement in a coup attempt, bribing parliamentarians, judges and influencing judicial rulings, Acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz revealed in a press briefing held by Maldives Police Service. Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed and Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed were also arrested under similar charges, including their alleged involvement in a coup attempt, accepting bribes and attempting to influence judges and judicial proceedings.

Meanwhile, Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has suspended Judge Ali Hameed and launched a probe into the accusations against him. Judge Ali Hameed has been suspended on the evidence of treason, accepting bribes and his involvement in an attempted coup, according to JSC.
