Action to be taken against content which poses threat to security

Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) has warned that legal actions would be taken against any broadcast content which poses a threat to the security and sovereignty of the nation.

Citing that with the Supreme Court ruling on February 1, various media agencies have broadcast contents which raised fear and insecurity among Maldivian citizens, according to a statement released by MBC. In addition, the statement highlighted that various media agencies has broadcast content which called for the increase of the foreign influence in Maldives, which poses a threat to the safety and security of the country.

MBC advised all media agencies to abide by the true norms of journalism and called to refrain from airing any content which poses a threat to Maldives. In this regard, MBC noted that the Commission has the authority to take legal action against any broadcasting channel which does not abide by the rules.
