Development paved way for progress in bilateral ties

The non-resident Ambassador of Thailand to Maldives Chulamanee Chartsuwan has stated that the developmental projects initiated by the Maldivian Government has paved way for major progress in the bilateral relations between Maldives and Thailand.

Speaking on Talk Maldives TV programme, aired on PSM News, the Thailand Ambassador cited that the Crossroad project, conducted in Emboodhoo Lagoon, is a mega project which plays an integral role to attract investors to Maldives. The non-resident Ambassador of Thailand to Maldives Chulamanee Chartsuwan said that Maldives has been a consistent and steadfast partner with Thailand in both bilateral and multilateral arena. The Thailand Ambassador praised the Maldivian government for its exemplary efforts in the sector of climate change.

Briefing on the Thailand Maldives relations, Ambassador Chulamanee Chartsuwan said that the developmental projects carried out by the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has paved way for major investments from Thailand and other foreign countries. The Ambassador emphasised that the Crossroad project, conducted in Emboodhoo Lagoon, is a major milestone as it plays an integral role to attract investors to Maldives. The Ambassador cited the mega developmental project of the expansion of the main gateway of Maldives, Velana International Airport, would further influx the number of Thai tourists to Maldives.

"I believe that with the expansion of the new airport and with more facilities for tourists there will be more Thai people coming here. For the moment we have 14 flights which are direct flights," Ambassador Chulamanee Chartsuwan said.

Speaking on the basis of bilateral relations between Maldives and Thailand, the Ambassador revealed that the actual foundation of the relations between both nations was laid by the hospitality industry. Ambassador Chartsuwan highlighted that various discussions have been conducted between investors of Maldives and Thailand to increase the scope of business opportunities in both countries. The Thai Ambassador said the relations between Maldives and Thailand provides the true essence of a blend of South Asia and Southeast Asia.

"I see that our relationship is increasing with Maldives recently, with tourism and with investments from Thailand to Maldives. Hospitality Business is the basis of our relationship which opened cooperation in other fields," the Ambassador said.

The non-resident Ambassador of Thailand to Maldives Chulamanee Chartsuwan presented the credentials to President of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on December 14, 2017. Maldives and Thailand established diplomatic relations on June 21, 1979.
