Indian Government has faced heavy criticism from Indian citizens on its approach towards dealing with the political crisis in Maldives.
The Indian Foreign Ministry issued a statement specifying instructions that Maldives should follow in the current political situation. However, this step has resulted in Indian media outlets and the Indians started targeting heavy criticism to their government for taking such an immature step being the biggest democracy in the world. Critics accused the ruling party of demolishing the true principles of democracy in the nation and stated that such actions should be stopped at once.
While some of the critics highlighted that such a step was prompted due the of the vagueness of the Indian foreign policy others questioned the Indian Government by putting India in the inferior position of being intervened by major powers such as U.S. and UK. Others called on the Indian government to focus on solving Indian issues rather than intervening in the issues of a small island nation which is functioning efficiently without foreign influence. img:http://s3.psmnews.mv/images/660x400/15193036088473.jpg|
In this regard, Indians called on their Government to address all the wrong doing caused due to deep routed corruption including a case involving one of the major banks. This fraud case has raised fears about the scale of problems in the banking sector that is already saddled with 147 billion U.S. dollars of soured debt.
Furthermore some of these comments also targeted the extremist Hindu religious ideology of the Indian ruling party, accusing the Government of trying to sabotage a 100 percent Muslim neighboring nation.
While the current political situation in Maldives has become a hot topic worldwide, nations such as China and Saudi Arabia have shown its steadfast partnership with the nation. These nations have called the international community and all foreign nations to give the time and space Maldives requires to solve its own internal politics. The Maldivian government has invited all political parties to the negotiating table to solve the current issue, with United Nations as the mediator.
