Would deliver excellent health care services: Tree Top Hospital

Chief Executive Officer of Tree Top Hospital Grant Muddle has said the state of the art health care facility came into existence with a clear vision of delivering excellence in service and does not intend to compete with any other medical facility established in Maldives or abroad. In this regard, Grant Muddle noted that the hospital aims to expand the health sector of Maldives by introducing revolutionary services such as specialist services, emergency services, dialysis services and state of the art laboratory services.

Briefing the media on the latest updates of the Tree Top Hospital, Grant Muddle said the hospital is all set to combat the challenges it would face in the initiation phase of the hospital. Grant Muddle assured that the services of the hospital would stand up high with the hype and expectations of the public.

"There would be hiccups and challenges but we are up to do whatever it takes to provide world class services to our patients. We are excited to deliver our services not only to Maldivians but also people coming from other countries with our best services. We would deliver our services with a vision and mission of delivering excellence in healthcare," Grant Muddle said.

In addition, Director of Tree Top Hospital Hussain Afeef revealed the USD 110 million mega project has made history by becoming the biggest investment made by a private company to expand the health sector of Maldives. Hussain Afeef said the hospital would provide Aasandha health insurance service, along with other insurance schemes. Afeef added the hospital would open the gateway for medical tourism to the country.

"We will request all our professional doctors who are here now to get our Maldivian young doctors and lead them in different ways to go take their path to become professional and qualified doctors in the time to come. It is our dream that we can build a group of local doctors who are capable to take over these doctors job maybe in 10 to 15 years," Hussain Afeef said.

Briefing the press, Chairman and Director of Tree Top hospital Ahmed Saleem revealed the project was initiated from scrap with dedication from various personals who had excelled in their fields. Ahmed Saleem revealed the operation of the hospital is formulated in an approach to get rid of the age long queuing system in Maldives.

"We found a Turkish company who has the expertise in designing and building hospitals and at that juncture we knew nothing about management so we started looking for management companies. We looked around and eventually we found Ramsay Sim Darbys the most suitable company to work with. So I have learnt a lot and it was a huge learning curve and eventually we have got there," Ahmed Saleem said.

The facility would commence with a bed capacity of 170 beds and would have specialist doctors from 35 countries, according to Tree Top Hospital. The doctors revealed the facility with a total of 315 staff is all prepared to provide the best services to the public.

Turkey-based Alke-Turmacs was contracted to design and develop the tertiary level hospital in Hulhumale' with Ramsay Sim Darby of Malaysia contracted to manage the hospital. The 6-storey Tree Top Hospital was developed along with an 8-storey support building which would have a staff accommodation block.

The development of the health sector is one of the prime focuses of the Administration and under the objective, the development of a tertiary level hospital in Hulhumale' was an electoral pledge of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. One of the major aims of developing a tertiary level hospital in Hulhumale' is to decrease the number of Maldivians travelling abroad for medical treatment.
