The government of Maldives has given its full commitment to delivering the fund accumulated under the nationwide telethon to assist Rohingya Muslims, to the rightful owners.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs said that via the nationwide telethon conducted in collaboration with media organizations, government authorities and non-governmental organisations to assist the Rohingya Muslims affected by the conflict in Myanmar, a total of over USD 1 million was accumulated.
In this regard, Islamic Ministry revealed that this amount includes donations in hard cash and pledges by various business entities. Islamic Ministry assured that it is exerting a lot of effort to accumulate the total amount.
Furthermore, the Islamic Ministry revealed that details of the Nationwide Rohingya Telethon was shared with all media outlets on the 17th of November last year and gave the government's full commitment in delivering the donations to its rightful owners. Donations for the telethon were made through fund boxes placed in various locations. via bank transfers to dedicated accounts of Bank of Maldives and Islamic Bank as well as through SMSs sent on Dhiraagu and Ooredoo telecommunication networks.
