Local Government Authority (LGA) has suspended councilors of six islands for a period of one month, without wages and allowance. LGA suspended the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Addu City Council along with two councilors of the city. LGA also suspended the President of Kamadhoo Island Council, the President and Vice President of Thulhaadhoo Island Council.
Four members of Dhihdhoo Island Council and all the members of Isdhoo Island Council were also suspended along with two members of Maamendhoo Island Council.
Council members were suspended in relation to the press statement issued, overruling the powers bestowed to them under the Decentralisation Act, according to LGA.
