Government of Maldives has refuted claims by some media outlets about weakening ties between India and Maldives. Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar stated that relations between India and Maldives are time-tested and assured of strengthened relations between the two countries, in an interview to PSM News.
Defence Minister Adam Shareef affirmed that communications are still proceeding as before between two countries, adding that there are no risks for Maldivians living in India or vice versa. Highlighting that India is a close partner and friend to Maldives, the Defence Minister lauded the swift response by India, in times of need.
The Defence Minister stated that India is ever-ready to assist Maldives and would not hesitate to do so, even if Maldives seeks assistance from India today.
Noting that India is closely monitoring the situation in Maldives, the Defence Minister said that India wishes for Maldives to solve its internal matters, internally.
