Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said the first two piers of China Maldives Friendship Bridge are connected forming the first superstructure of the largest infrastructure project to be conducted in the country. The first two piers forming the first superstructure are Pier 22 and Pier 23 of the bridge, said Housing Minister Muizzu in a tweet.
The construction of the bridge is progressing according to the schedule and added the superstructure of the bridge would be completed by July 9, assured Housing Minister.
The 1.39 kilometre long bridge will have two car lanes and separate lanes for bicycles, motorcycles, and pedestrians. The total expense of the project amounts to USD 200 million, out of which USD 116 million is provided as free aid by the government of China.
