Maldives and Zambia formally establish diplomatic ties

Maldives and the Zambia have formally established diplomatic relations.
The Joint Communiqué formalising diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed by Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations Lazarous Kapambwe at a ceremony held at Bandos Island Resort.
Speaking at the ceremony, both Ambassadors expressed their desire to forge closer cooperation between the two countries and to maintain better coordination in their work within the United Nations and other international arenas on matters of mutual concern, especially in advocating climate change, peace and security. The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries marks a historic opening for cooperation connecting the peoples of the two countries in all areas of mutual interest.
Zambia is a landlocked country in Africa, situated on the Southern African plateau with a population of approximately 16 million. Zambia is the 166th country to establish diplomatic relations with the Maldives.
