Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed plans to commence school bus services in Kulhudhuffushi of Haa Dhaalu atoll by mid-year.
MPL is successfully conducting bus services in Addu city, Fuvahmulah city and the link road of Laamu atoll. Providing public transportation service to the Maldivian population is one main aim of MPL. In this regard, MPL is now planning to commence school bus services in Kulhudhuffushi of Haa Dhaalu atoll, while the company also has plans to commence the service in Male' city as well.
A survey is currently underway to assess the most feasible size of buses to commence the service, Assistant CEO of MPL Raabih Mohamed said speaking with PSM News. MPL stated it is currently working to attain the vehicles needed to commence the service.
The MPL official revealed the service will commence with buses which can accommodate about 20 passengers and added the buses will be brought along with the shipment of buses to be used on China Maldives Friendship Bridge. Revealing the main aim of MPL is to provide citizens with a better service rather than generating an income, Raabih noted the service has been well-received by the public.
The project will cost around USD 6.4 million, according to MPL.
