Maldives to host first International Quran Competition on May 13

Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Centre for the Holy Quran and Public Service Media (PSM) have revealed plan to conduct the first International Quran competition on May 13.
The competition which is titled as "Al Noorul Mubeen" is an initiative of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and would have judging panel which includes international judges. In this regard, the judging panel of the international competition consists of 2 judges from Maldives, a judge from Pakistan and Sudan. In addition the organisers working to add judges from countries such as Turkey and Egypt to the panel.
Participants from Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka would take part in the competition, Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Ziyad noted in a press conference held to announce the competition.
Managing Director of PSM Ibrahim Khaleel said the company has always prioritised religion and discipline in all its endeavours, addressing the press briefing. On this note, Ibrahim Khaleel revealed the competition would be televised from its channels. Meanwhile, Deputy Managing Director of PSM Mohamed Ikram Abdul Latheef revealed plans to expand and enhance the competition in the future.
The auditions will be held to select the participants who would represent Maldives in the competition, according to information provided by the organisers.
