MIFCO increases the amount of fish purchase from southern region

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has increased the amount of fish purchases from the southern region of Maldives.
MIFCO revealed one of its largest fish storage vessels is currently active in the region, in a statement released by the company to announce the increase in purchases. In the past three days the fishermen from south had an excellent fishing spree but due to the lack of fish storage vessels, the fishermen had faced various difficulties. MIFCO revealed the difficulties are faced as the fish caught by fishermen exceeds the fish freezing capacity of the company but assured fast and strategic steps have been taken to solve the difficulties.
MIFCO revealed it aims to ease the difficulties faced by the fishermen by extending the operating hours of the ice storage facilities to 24 hours. In the last 6 months, it had purchased about 150 tonnes of fish per day and noted in the past three days about 600 tonnes of fish were purchased per day, according to MIFCO.
Last year, MIFCO has increased the amount of fish buying capacity from 400 tonnes to 720 tonnes, while frozen fish storage capacity was increased to 612 tonnes. In addition, the ice production capacity was increased from 355 tonnes to 630 tonnes.
