Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim says the government is committed to invest in the health sector with the introduction of new technologies, quality services, accessibility to medicine and development of human resources.
Addressing the official function held to mark World Health Day 2018, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim noted that the approach of the government on health services, important health achievements of the past 4 years and further plans and policies to be implemented to enhance further developments of the health sector.
Health Minister Nazim focused on the civic responsibility in prevention of diseases such as screening of diseases, exercise and adapting a nutritous diet. The Health Minister further called on media to promote awareness and healthy habits and urged the non-governmental organisations to support the health policies.
Continuing on, Minister Nazim highlighted the government is committed to invest in health sector with the introduction of new technologies, quality services, accessibility to medicine and development of human resources.
Addressing the ceremony, Representative of World Health Organisation (WHO) to Maldives Dr. Arvind Mathur highlighted the universal health coverage does not mean only treating diseases, as it also involves preventive interventions by high immunisation coverage, vector control or other such measures.
Dr. Arvind Mathur emphasised on the importance on taking concrete steps to stop spread of non-communicable diseases. In this regard, Dr. Arvind assured that WHO would provide full assistance to Maldives in attaining the objective.
At the function, the Health Research Bulletin V5 was launched which includes abstracts of health researches, application process and information. Furthermore, a Health Achievement Booklet was launched which includes progressive changes in the health sector from 2014 to 2018. In addition, organsiations and individuals were conferred with awards to recognise their contributions to the health sector.
A special exhibition was conducted to mark World Health Day 2018. The exhibition displayed the progress and achievements of the health sector in Maldives.
