Elections Commission has stated that it would not allow any individual or party to disrupt the upcoming Presidential Election.
Addressing a press briefing on the latest updates of the Presidential Election, President of Elections Commission of Maldives Ahmed Shareef said, the commission is advancing its efforts to hold a successful election in September.
Noting, the commission would remain an independent entity, Ahmed Shareef assured, statements and comments made by any individual or party would not hinder efforts to hold a free and fair election.
Ahmed Shareef emphasised the only challenge in the preparations for the election is the delay in endorsing necessary amendments to the existing laws and regulations. In this regard, Ahmed Shareef revealed the amendments include proposals by both local and international election observers.
The head of the Maldivian electoral body said, the amendments would be finalised soon and sent to Attorney General's Office. Continuing on, Shareef revealed the number of ballot boxes and voting stations have not yet been finalised and the commission aims to complete the voters list next month.
He further added, interested candidates can submit nominations to compete in the Presidential Election in July.
