Electronic toll system on CMFB will be affordable: Housing Minister

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated, the electronic toll system installed on China Maldives Friendship Bridge would be affordable for all citizens. Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, the Housing Minister said, the government aims to take a fee to cover the cost of minor maintenance expenses and to ensure the durability of the bridge.

Minister Muizzu assured the toll would be affordable for all citizens and noted the toll would be taken as a means to generate revenue. In this regard, the Minister said electronic toll systems would be installed at both ends of the bridge, which connect Male' and Hulhumale'.

Giving assurance that the toll system would not slow down transport flow on the bridge or cause traffic jams, the Housing Minister affirmed, every vehicle will be provided with a device which will automatically collect tolls when passing through the electronic toll system.

The 1.39 km China Maldives Friendship Bridge will have two car lanes, with separate lanes for bicycles, motorcycles, and pedestrians.
