Ambassador of China to Maldives Zhang Lizhong has revealed that 100 scholarship opportunities would be granted to Maldivian students this year. The Chinese Ambassador revealed made the remarks while addressing the One Belt and One Road Symposium held in Maldives.
Ambassador Zhang Lizhong said Maldives has a time tested strong relationship with China. In this regard, the Chinese Ambassador expressed regret on the misleading and incorrect information circulated on the relationship both countries share and noted such accusations might have negative end effects in the long run.
Continuing on, the Chinese Ambassador revealed 100 scholarship opportunities from China would be granted to Maldivian students this year. Ambassador Zhang Lizhong noted the government of China has granted 200 scholarships to Maldivian students last year. He reiterated the commitment of China in assisting Maldives in its development.
One Belt and One Road initiative is a development strategy proposed by the government of China that focuses on connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries. The strategy underlines China's push to take a larger role in global affairs with a China-centered trading network.
