Maldives prioritises stable economies for development: Ambassador Hussain Shareef

Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef has stated Maldives prioritises to collaborate with economically stable countries as regional countries lag behind development.
Maldives shares a close bond with countries such as China and Saudi Arabia as they have stable economies which prompts to have positive effects on the economy of Maldives, Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef said speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef said Maldives shares a close bond with countries such as China and Saudi Arabia as they have stable economies which prompts to have positive effects on the economy of Maldives.
Ambassador Mohamed Hussain Shareef said under the strategic foreign policy of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Maldives has maintained a strong friendship and bond with the regional countries. However, the Ambassador noted the administration prioritises development of Maldives above all other factors while enhancing foreign relations.
Noting the importance of exploiting various dimensions of such relations, the Ambassador said Maldives had lagged behind making the most out of such relations and had been involved in non-beneficial cooperation. Ambassador Hussain Shareef noted the award conferred to President Yameen by the International Moderation Forum testifies the prominence Maldives has gained in the global fora.
The Ambassador noted with regret some opposition tactics to foil the mutual understanding between Maldives and other countries and expressed these individuals do not bring forth nationalism over political motives.
On conclusion, the Maldivian Ambassador noted acts and tactics of former president Mohamed Nasheed has major negative effects on the country and its citizens.
