MTCC concludes land reclamation of Komandoo Island

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has concluded the land reclamation project in Komandoo of Shaviyani atoll. The land area of the island has been expanded from 7 hectares to 17 hectares, following completion of the project.
The land reclamation project was initiated on April 5 with the use of the trailing suction hopper dredger of MTCC. The government plans to relocate the powerhouse and waste management centre and construct 50 housing units in the reclaimed area, according to the Island Council of Komandoo.
The government has allocated around USD 714,000 from the annual budget to reclaim land and conserve the surrounding areas in Komandoo.
