Parliament passes to increase health insurance premium provided to ministers

The parliament of the Maldives has passed to increase the health insurance premium provided to cabinet ministers. The parliament approved to increase the health insurance premium provided to cabinet ministers from USD 1,228 to USD 1,552 per year.

Parliament's Public Finance Committee approved to increase the amount after a submission to the parliament by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The parliament passed the submission with 36 votes in favor. The committee report stated Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives Private Limited had initially offered a special deal on its premium health plan to government ministers.

The committee decided to increase the funds allocated for health insurance plan of ministers as the insurance company could no longer continue to offer the same benefits under the initial price.

During the parliament sitting, the committee also decided to issue health insurance schemes for members of National Integrity Commission (NIC) and their immediate families.
