Elections Commission requests for funds to hold by-elections

Elections Commission of Maldives has sent required documents to Ministry of Finance and Treasury requesting over USD 90,000 to hold by-elections for 12 vacant seats in the parliament.
The commission is preparing to hold by-elections in 12 constituencies and stated the by-elections would be held when the Finance Ministry releases the required budget, member of Elections Commission Ahmed Akram revealed in an exclusive interview with PSM News. In this regard, Ahmed Akram noted all the administrative work have been completed to hold the by-elections, in accordance with the ruling of Supreme Court of Maldives.
The electoral body declared 12 parliamentarians formerly of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives has lost their seats over floor-crossing. The unseated parliamentarians contested the case at the Supreme Court causing the delay in the attempts to hold the by-elections.
