Elections Commission of Maldives has concluded sensitisation programmes held in Laamu atoll to familiarise citizens on the upcoming presidential election. The programmes held separately in islands of Maavah, Isdhoo Kalaidhoo, Gan and Fonadhoo were attended by many citizens of the islands.
Information were disseminated on authorities bestowed upon the electoral body under the constitution during elections and information on candidates, observers, representatives and monitors were also discussed, during the programme. One main aim of the sensitisation programmes are held to ensure the voting population is aware of the process, said Elections Commission. The participants of the programme stated crucial information regarding the elections were gained.
Furthermore, similar sessions were concluded in Addu City. The sessions conducted in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo and Hulhumeedhoo were attended by over 180 citizens. The Elections Commission aims to hold similar workshops in all parts of Maldives before the presidential election is held in September.
