Maldives Police Service has revealed it is investigating a case related to disclosing statements to the public given by individuals in custody regarding the attempted judicial coup to overthrow the lawfully elected government of Maldives.
A group of people have leaked statements obtained by the institution for the investigation of the attempted judicial coup of February 1, Spokesperson of Police Ahmed Shifan said at a press conference. Noting the institution is investigating the action as a serious crime, Superintendent Ahmed Shifan assured the responsible people will be served according to the law.
Furthermore, Shifan assured security and safety are enhanced after the incident to ensure any attempt to disclose statements given by individuals and suspects are not made public. The Maldives Police Service will continue abiding by the laws to ensure the safety and security of all citizens of Maldives, reiterated Shifan.
