Stakeholder Workshop on road map for Low Carbon Development begins

Ministry of Environment and Energy has started the Second Stakeholder Workshop on Road map for Low Carbon Development on Energy Sector in Maldives.
Environment Ministry revealed the workshop is conducted to reduce the fuel dependency by 70% using renewable energy and implementing energy efficiency measures. The workshop also aims to formulate a roadmap on the initiatives to be conducted by Maldives from 2018 to 2025.
The initiative would pave way for the economic development of the country by slating the expense on the production of energy from non-renewable sources, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim said addressing the opening ceremony. Minister Thoriq highlighted the negative impact the production of energy from non-renewable sources such as oil have on environment and the health.
The workshop is conducted with the collaboration of Asian Development Bank and the participation of industry professionals from the sector, according to the Ministry.
