Fish exports increases by 77% in April 2018

Maldives Customs Service has revealed the value of fish products exported in April 2018 increased by 77% compared to the same month of last year.
Fish products valuing USD 13.4 million was exported in April 2017, whereas the figure was increased to USD 23.75 million in 2018, according to statistics of Maldives Customs Service. The Customs Service recorded Thailand as the highest exporting country in 2018 having a share of 50% of the total exports. Other major exporting destinations include Germany, England, U.S. and France.
Likewise, the value of imports showed an increase of 16% in April this year, compared to the same month of last year. Statistics revealed goods worth almost USD 210 million were imported during April 2017, whereas the figure was recorded at USD 243 million last month. Among the top importing countries, UAE recorded the highest with 21%, followed by Singapore with 13% and China with 12% of the total import value, according to Customs Service.
Furthermore, the total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines recorded an increase of 31% compared to that of April 2017, with the increase of imports in last month. Statistics stated almost USD 17 million was collected through import duty and fees last month, whereas the figure was recorded as almost USD 13 million in April 2017.
