Maldives attends 22d session of IOTC

Maldives has attended the 22nd session of Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC). Maldives submitted proposals on allocations of fishing opportunities, interim capacity reduction measures, protections for mobular and manta rays and strengthening port transhipments.
Moreover, Maldives introduced a proposal on allocation criteria for tuna species for Maldives and 10 other coastal states.
Maldives head delegate noted that Race to fish is no way to sustainably manage tuna in this day and age.
The IOTC is an intergovernmental organisation responsible for the management of tuna and tuna-like species in the Indian Ocean. The 22nd of IOTC is held from May 21 to 25 at Thailand, Bangkok.
