Maldives & Central African Republic formalises diplomatic relations

Maldives and Central African Republic have formalised diplomatic relations.
The Joint Communiqué formalising diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed by Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed and Permanent Representative of the Central African Republic to the United Nations Ambroisine Kpongo. The joint communiqué was signed at the Permanent Mission of Maldives in New York.
The Central African Republic is one of the largest countries in central Africa. It is bordered by Chad to the north, Sudan to the northeast, South Sudan to the east, Congo to the south and Cameroon to the west. Central African Republic covers a land area of about 620,000 square kilometres and had an estimated population of around 4.6 million as of 2016.
The two countries collaborate in the international arena, within the framework of the United Nations, and other international organisations, even prior to the establishment of diplomatic relations.
With the signing of diplomatic relations with Central African Republic, the Maldives has diplomatic relations with 169 countries.
