69% tested found positive for influenza: HPA

Health Protection Authority (HPA) has revealed 69% of the patients who were tested for Influenza were found positive to Influenza A.
In a statement, HPA confirmed that Influenza A strand, H3N2 is spreading in Maldives. HPA revealed 6,669 cases were reported in a week for flu and cold were symptoms. HPA further noted an elder citizen found positive to H3N2 passed away last week.
The authority revealed Influenza is dangerous for pregnant ladies, children under five years, people diagnosed with kidney problems, diabetic patients, thalassemia patients and people with weak immune systems.
The public needs to consult a doctor if any symptoms are found to avoid any unfavourable conditions noting some of the precautionary measures which can be taken to avoid the spread, urged the authority. HPA advises to avoid public gatherings and prioritise hygiene at all times.
