Island Aviation Services Limited has commenced four environment-friendly projects. The projects were inaugurated by the Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim.
The projects include working towards a Solar Powered Seaplane Terminal and Hangar, transition from plastic tumblers to paper cups on board Maldivian flights, transition to LED lights on board all Maldivian aircraft and company premises and to implement a company-wide recycling programme. Efforts to operate seaplane offices by renewable energy and changing lights in office premises to LED lights have already commenced, revealed Island Aviation, adding plastic cups will be fully replaced with paper cups within the next two months. In addition, Island Aviation stated it will begin recycling plastics collected in collection points.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim expressed every company, institution or authority must take this initiative as an example, adding this will pave way to achieve the government efforts to minimise harmful gases to environment. The Environment Minister highlighted several programmes will be held in relation to this year's theme, Beat Plastic Pollution, revealing the government has embarked on policy level works to ban plastic.
