MBC urges not to broadcast FIFA World Cup 2018 without a valid license

Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) has held a meeting with Public Service Media (PSM), Medianet Private Limited and Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun Public Limited (Dhiraagu) regarding the broadcasting and rebroadcasting of FIFA World Cup. In the meeting, discussions were held on rules and regulations of broadcasting and rebroadcasting of FIFA World Cup in various platforms for the benefit of the public.
In a statement issued, MBC appreciated the efforts of PSM, in accordance with rebroadcasting regulations of Maldives, for providing the public with opportunity to watch FIFA World Cup and its coverage on multiple platforms. In this regard, MBC noted that PSM has obtained the broadcasting and rebroadcasting rights from the regional distributer and has conducted major efforts in its FIFA World Cup coverage as a public service provider.
Furthermore, the commission also welcomed the efforts of other service providers to broadcast FIFA World Cup in various qualities including high definition and 4K qualities. MBC highlighted parties with licences to rebroadcast must follow the rebroadcasting regulations of Maldives and continue with the rebroadcast under a non-exclusive channel agreement.
Therefore, the broadcasting commission assured the broadcasting and rebroadcasting of FIFA World Cup would continue according to the rules and regulations. PSM, MediaNet and Dhiraagu held a press conference together with members of MBC after the conclusion of the meeting and urged not to broadcast FIFA World Cup 2018 content without a valid license.
