Foreigners prohibited from managing entertainment sector

Ministry of Economic Development has prohibited foreigners from investing in event management, entertainment and the production sector of Maldives.
The sectors of event management, entertainment and production have been declared areas in which foreign investments are prohibited, according to a notice issued amending changes to company registration regulation. The amended regulation states foreigners cannot participate in managerial level positions of event management, production and entertainment related services.
Following these changes, Economic Ministry has advised to halt any business being operated by foreigners, which falls under the specified sectors.
