Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has commenced casting concrete at the fuel farm in Velana International airport.
MACL is working on developing a new fuel farm as part of the expansion project of Velana International Airport. The new fuel farm is being developed in two phases, with 3 fuel tanks established in the first phase. Work of the concrete ring wall have been completed in tank one with back-filling work currently ongoing, according to the company. MACL commenced casting concrete in the second tank in the fuel farm. The new fuel farm can hold a capacity of 45 million tonnes of jet fuel, stated MACL.
The development of the new fuel farm, which would triple the current capacity of fuel storage, was contracted to Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG).
A further two fuel tanks can be established with regard to the fuel demand and storage limits, according to MACL.
