Vision to develop Hulhumale' youth city has become a reality: HDC

Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Ahmed Nasif has stated the vision of the government to develop a youth city in Hulhumale' with the most convenient services has become a reality.
With the initiation of the largest social housing project ever conducted in the country, many developmental projects are carried out in Hulhumale', as part of the sustainable development plan of the government. It is a vision of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to develop Hulhumale' as a city which benefits the following generations. The mega project of developing Hulhumale' is conducted in two phases. With various services that benefit the community now available in phase one, the government aims to develop the second phase with the latest technological facilities.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) expects to offer a socially protective city with the access to latest facilities upon completion of the project of Hulhumale' phase two. In this regard, the largest social housing project initiated to solve the congestion and housing issues faced in Maldives, along with the largest power project, the Fifth Power Project, are also conducted in Hulhumale'. As part of the Fifth Power Project, a single electricity network will connect Male', Hulhule' and Hulhumale', solving many issues faced in providing electricity to the most congested area in the country.
Visible changes are brought to Hulhumale' under the visionary agenda of President Yameen Abdul Gayoom, with every little project made a reality, the newly appointed Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Nasif stated speaking about the developments brought to Hulhumale'. In this regard, he highlighted projects related to youth such as futsal grounds, synthetic track, community centre and other recreational facilities are being developed in Hulhumale'. Furthermore, Nasif expressed hope to make Hulhumale' safe for everyone, revealing the city will also benefit the floating population of the country.
The population of Hulhumale' will boost over 100,000 along with the establishment of the cruise terminal at Velana International Airport. Hulhumale' currently accommodates a population of over 40,000, according to HDC.
