Maldives, Singapore discuss joint efforts to counter terrorism

Maldives has held discussions with Singapore Counter Terrorism Agency on further enhancing joint efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism.
The meeting, held in New York on the side-lines of the ongoing United Nations High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies, was attended by Director General of National Counter Terrorism Centre of Maldives Zakariyya Mansoor. During the meeting held with Singapore Counter Terrorism Agency, Maldives highlighted efforts of the government in countering terrorism and violent extremism. The delegation of Maldives also informed the Singaporean agency on the efforts of National Counter Terrorism Centre of Maldives to enhance the mandated job of the centre locally.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Zakariyya Mansoor attended the first ever United Nations High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The conference held on the theme, 'Strengthening international cooperation to combat the evolving threat of terrorism' is held from June 28-29.
The two-day conference will provide an opportunity for the United Nations and member states to forge new partnerships to address the complex and transnational threat of terrorism, according to United Nations Information Centre.
