Transport related maritime counter terrorism commences in Maldives

A workshop aiming to discuss security threats which may occur from sea routes and ways to overcome those challenges has commenced in Maldives. The workshop on Transport Related Maritime Counter Terrorism is conducted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, National Counter Terrorism Centre of Maldives (NCTC) and United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC).
The three-day workshop is attended by 30 officials from 12 government offices. The workshop will focus on threats of terrorism which may transpire from sea routes, security threats and ways to overcome those challenges, according to NCTC. Moreover, NCTC revealed further discussions will also take place to enhance the legal framework to counter terrorism.
The Transport Related Maritime Counter Terrorism was inaugurated by Foreign Secretary of Maldives Ahmed Sareer.
During the ceremony, the Foreign Secretary highlighted on the importance of such a workshop to enhance the efforts of Maldives in countering terrorism threats which might transpire in travel routes.
