Government of Maldives officially has launched the project to develop a National Sports Academy building located at the youth city in Hulhumale'.
The project was launched by Minister of Youth and Sports Iruthisham Adam, President of Football of Association of Maldives (FAM) Bassam Adil Jaleel and Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Ahmed Nasif. During the ceremony, FAM announced the National Sports Academy will be inaugurated in September.
Speaking at the ceremony, Youth Minister Iruthisham Adam revealed a budget of USD 1 million has been allocated for the development of the first phase of the building, adding the government has also provided a land of 230,000 square feet for the project.
Meanwhile, Bassam Adil Jaleel said the first phase of the building will conclude within 90 days, adding the building will consist of an office, a turf ground, accommodation block, a gym and a mosque.
Discussions are underway with an international academy to enhance the sports sector of Maldives, according to the FAM president.
