International Fatwa Conference commences in Maldives

The first ever International Fatwa Conference has commenced in Maldives.
The one-day conference held under the theme "Fatwa is a Tool for Peace" will boost the efforts to establish Supreme Fatwa Council of Maldives as the most accountable Fatwa council in the South Asia region. The Fatwa conference is attended by a high-level delegation from Egypt, Malaysia, Jordan, Sudan and Maldives. In addition, the conference is also attended by renowned local scholars and prominent figures of the field.
Fatwas cannot be delivered by just anybody, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad said speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the conference, adding one must be fluent in Arabic language and must have a thorough knowledge in Islam to deliver fatwas. Grand Muftis of Egypt, Jordan, and Sudan also spoke passionately at the opening ceremony of International Fatwa Conference hosted by Maldives.
The Fatwa conference initiated by the Supreme Fatwa Council of Maldives is a major milestone of the council. During the conference, information will be exchanged on many religious topics, according to Supreme Fatwa Council.
The conference is a step towards maintaining the religious policies of Maldives.
