Attorney General Office has urged to ensure equal opportunity to all presidential candidates and political parties to ensure a free, fair and a credible election is held in September.
A statement issued by Attorney General's Office advised all state agencies to treat all presidential candidates and political parties with equality in election related matters. In this regard, the statement appealed Ministry of Home Affairs, Maldives Police Service, Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure and Public Service Media (PSM) to eliminate any discrimination when treating presidential candidates.
In this regard, the statement urged PSM to provide equal airtime for all candidates. PSM has announced it will publicise a policy on providing airtime from its channels to presidential candidates and political parties within the next days.
Moreover, the office has instructed to provide security and safety for candidates and their running mates by the state and to provide its resources, public spaces and roads if requested to hold campaign activities.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 23.
