Ministry of Home Affairs has revealed security has been ensured for presidential candidates and their nominated running mates as urged by the Attorney General of Maldives.
Security has been provided for candidates and running mates who have requested for such measures, Deputy Minister at Home Ministry Ahmed Siddeeq assured while speaking on a programme aired on PSM News. Deputy minister Siddeeq also stated security will officially be arranged following the official announcement of candidates by Elections Commission of Maldives.
Moreover, Ahmed Siddeeq said Maldives Police Service is fully prepared for the upcoming presidential election scheduled to be held on September 23. He said a special command has been assembled to ensure security during the presidential election. Reflecting back on the past two presidential elections, Siddeeq revealed the public is more aware on the process as more youth are involved in the voting.
Home ministry has urged for collective efforts to ensure a free, fair and credible election is held in Maldives.
