The first ever Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech) hospitality lab has opened in Dharavandhoo School in Baa Atoll. The hospitality lab was inaugurated by B-Tech Coordinator at Ministry of Education Zushan Kamaluddin and the General Manager of Dusit Thani Maldives Reinhold Johann at a ceremony held at Dharavandhoo School.
Ministry of Education introduced B-Tech as the fourth stream in 2014 under the all-inclusive education policy of the government. The hospitality lab is developed as a department of the resort, making it possible to run academic classes and conduct practical work in a number of service related sections.
Dusit Thani Maldives granted an aid of over USD 5,700 US dollars and other equipment required to develop the lab, according to Dharavandhoo School. Moreover, computer systems and air conditioning was provided by the education ministry while other expenses were provided by the Parent Teacher Association of the school.
The lab is an outstanding initiative and that other schools must take this as an example, Zushan Kamaluddin stated speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the lab.
