Following recommendation from the Cabinet, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided for the Maldives to participate in the convention of Framework Agreement on the establishment of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the convention of Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic resources and their Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising From Their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
ISA endorses to reduce the impact of climate change especially for small Island states like Maldives. Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic resources and their Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from Their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity aims at conserving biological diversity, promoting the sustainable use of its components, and encouraging equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the genetics resources.
The deliberations were made at a meeting of the cabinet, on the two papers presented by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
