Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has begun reclaiming land required to develop a parking area at Velana International Airport (VIA).
A land area of 2.5 hectares will be reclaimed from the southwest side of Hulhule' to provide more parking spaces for vehicles, according to MACL.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of MACL, Adil Moosa stated, land reclamation and shore protection of the reclaimed area will be completed next month, adding the area will be used to park vehicles entering the airport from SinaMale' bridge.
The government of Maldives has been exerting major efforts to develop Male' city and the main gateway to Maldives, VIA. In this regard, the government embarked on a USD 1 billion mega project to expand the airport.
