Government of Maldives has stated it is following with concern the diplomatic row between Canada and Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said the provocation by any foreign state hindering the respect for sovereignty and the basic principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states is a clear violation of the international conventions and norms of conduct between states. The government of Maldives affirmed its full solidarity with the government of Saudi Arabia in supporting the policies and actions adopted to uphold its sovereignty.
The statement further said it is important for all states to respect and honour the noble principles of the United Nations Charter and resolve the differences amicably through diplomacy and dialogue.
