It is impossible to maintain a coalition government: Former President Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated it is impossible to maintain a coalition government in the Maldives.
Contradicting claims of opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih that he would run a government with the inclusion of all political parties in the country, the former president said under the Constitution of Maldives, a coalition government cannot be established in the country. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is contesting in the presidential election, representing a wide coalition which includes former President Nasheed's Maldivian Democratic Party, Jumhoory Party and Adhaalath Party.
Meanwhile, Nasheed came to power in 2008 as the presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party, as part of a coalition that also included Jumhoory Party and Adhaalath Party. However, the coalition broke down within months and his administration lasted just three years.
