Opposition presidential candidate refuses to meet visiting UK Parliamentary Delegation

The opposition coalition and its presidential candidate have refused to meet the delegation of the UK Parliament visiting Maldives to observe the presidential election. The delegation consists of Labour Party Parliament Member Roger Godsiff and Conservative Party Parliament Member David Amess. During their stay in the Maldives, both parliamentarians are expected to meet government officials, political parties and independent organisations.
In this regard, the UK parliamentarians have met the officials of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Speaking with PSM News, parliamentary group leader of PPM Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik revealed he was informed the opposition coalition and its presidential candidates have been postponing the meetings and refusing to meet the visiting UK parliamentary delegation.
Nihan raised concerns following the decision by the opposition coalition to not attend the meeting with the UK parliament members. Nihan revealed he personally tried to contact the opposition presidential candidate, in the presence of the UK delegation, without any success.
