Comments of Dr. Swamy does not reflect Indian government: MEA

India has revealed the opinion of Dr. Subramaniam Swamy on Maldives does not reflect the views of the government of India.
In a tweet, BJP member of Rajya Sabha, Subramanian Swamy, said India should invade Maldives if election rigging takes place in the upcoming presidential election. Following the comments, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs of India revealed the comments of Dr. Swamy have nothing to do with the opinion of the government of India, dismissing it as his personal views.
Meanwhile, a large number of people expressed concerns over the tweet of Dr. Swamy, some stating the comments contradict the United Nations Charter. His call on India to invade Maldives in case of vote rigging comes in the wake of his meeting with former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In a tweet following the meeting, Swamy said that he had met the former President who is supposed to be serving what remains of a 13 year jail sentence.
