Former president Nasheed did not register to vote

Elections Commission of Maldives has revealed former President Mohamed Nasheed did not re-register to vote in the upcoming presidential election.
Convicts can vote if they register via Maldives Correctional Service, member of the elections commission Ahmed Akram stated speaking with PSM News, adding former president Mohamed Nasheed who fled the country, following a 13-year jail sentence, have not re-registered. Moreover, Akram revealed leader of Jumhoory Party Qasim Ibrahim, who has also fled the country following a jail sentence, applied to re-register in the UK, stating the application is invalid. The electoral body noted convicts must register for voting stations placed in the jails.
Even though Nasheed and Qasim failed to re-register for the presidential election, other convicts including former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and leader of Adhaalath Party Sheikh Imran Abdullah have registered to vote accordingly.
The presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 23.
